Large Stoneware Teapot
First, I threw the main form of the teapot on my potter's wheel. I then threw a lid to fit and hand built the handle and spout. Once ready, I trimmed the teapot to give it its delicate shape. I then attached the spout, adding holes where the base of the spout meets the teapot so that the user can use loose leaf tea. Next, I lined up the handle directly across from the spout and attached it with a score and slip method. Finally, I buffed out any imperfections and ensured the teapot wouldn't crack by drying it slowly under plastic for one week.
Once dried, I sent the pot through the kiln for its first firing. Afterwards, I glazed it in a completely unique manner that also happens to be my personal favorite. I call this glaze pattern 'Magellan'. Because of the randomness of the application and the way the turquoise pops against the brown stone underneath, this glaze reminds me of undiscovered lands that have yet to be charted. This large, 32oz teapot will leave you full of wonder, discovery, and tea...
